Andrew - I think you make an excellent point. Since this is a world wide network, and the Savage is a world bike, not all bikes are exactly the same due to country of import reasons as you just identified. It would behove all of us to take this into consideration when applying a fix found here or for that matter explaining one to someone elsewhere without knowing precicely the country of origin. I confess, i'm guilty here but you do know i'm in Kansas.
